Abstract
The article focuses on the relations between thought, language and culture. The views of A.A. Potebnya and M.K. Petrov on the phenomenon of linguistic variety are analyzed. A language is interpreted as a major cultural resource of thought. Different estimations of hypothesis of linguistic relativity are compared.
