The article is devoted to the trends and barriers of innovation of pharmaceutical firms abroad and in Russia. The success of a pharmaceutical firms and industry can be measured by several indicators. The main indicator is certainly the volume of sales and the share of new launches in the volume of sales. The article provides an analysis of the position changes of the world's leading pharmaceutical firms, current trends in the pharmaceutical industry caused by globalization of the world economy. Actual problems and barriers of the domestic pharmaceutical industry are listed.
