Abstract
Global Supply chains have expanded rapidly over the decades around the globe with the aim to increase productivity, lower costs and fulfill demands in emerging markets. The increasing complexity in a supply chain hinders visibility and consequently reduces one’s control over the process. Cases of disruption have shown that a risk event occurring at one point of the supply chain can greatly affect other parts of network, when the disruption is not properly controlled. Global supply chain design models are in a special class and distinct from general supply chain design models. With this scope in mind, we conducted a review of literature using library databases covering the major journals in management science and operations management and edited books. It was concluded and recommended that risks associated with global supply chain design must be understood through longitudinal studies and appropriate ways be suggested to prevent poor decision making in times of uncertainty.
