THE WORDS REGARDING IMMORAL TYPES IN DIVANU LUGATI'T-TURK

Abstract
Divanü Lûgati’t-Türk, which is a cultural treasure of Turkish, show wideness and prosperity of Turkish vocabulary in the eleventh century and also puts forward interesting recordings about people and community life, materialistic and moral culture in that century. From this point of view, Divanü Lûgati’t-Türk, which was, approximately, written a thousand years ago, is, as a great many researchers agreed, one of the first historical and cultural reference books rather than being the first Turkish dictionary. But, it is not always easy to understand the meaning and function of some culture-related words in Divanü Lûgati’t-Türk. Because, while translating the works about spoken language written in the previous periods of time, we give meanings which best suits to our understanding of the sentence. Therefore, discussions on some words giving meaning Divanü Lûgati’t-Türk are still continuing. As a result in this article, some words regarding immoral types in Divanü Lûgati’t-Türk were taken into consideration in particular. These words are following: çakrak, çanaç, ersek, kündi, oynaş and sürtük. Some of these words is defined as ‘hapax legomenon’ in vocabulary of Divanü Lûgati’t-Türk. The historical and contemporary Turkish dialects can be applied to explain the meaning of these words. Our study a screening model been based on document review. Therefore, firstly scanning Divanü Lûgati’t-Türk line by line, all words, idioms, proverbs, couplets and written-in-verse components reflecting the words regarding immoral types of its age have been indexed and listed in it self.
