Abstract
This paper focuses on the relation between the self and self-management, including Indian and western concept of self. It is mainly explaining the importance of self-management. The concept of self-management has different meanings in different fields. In business, education, and psychology, self-management refers to methods, skills, and strategies by which individuals can effectively direct their own activities toward the achievement of objectives, and includes goal setting, decision making, focusing, planning, scheduling, task tracking, self-evaluation, self-intervention, self-development, etc. In the metaphysical sense, the Self is the idea of a unified being which is the source of consciousness. Philosophers/thinkers differ widely on the explanations about the Self. In Indian philosophy, especially in the Bhagavad-Gitâ, the concept of Self plays a prominent role, and it is the same with Western philosophy also.
