Abstract
Uterine myomas are benign, fibromuscular tumors. They consist of clonal expansions of a single myometrial cell with various amounts of fibrous tissue. They originate from smooth muscle cells of the uterus. However, in some cases they originate from smooth muscle cells of uterine blood vessels.Estrogen and progesterone appear to play a key role in the pathogenesis of uterine myomas.
