Abstract
During ancient time India was the leader of education in the world. India has a prosperous history with international centers of education like Taxila and Nalanda. During ancient time education was confine to special categories of the society. Before independence citizens were not having equal right of education in the country. After independence through various provisions of our constitution attempts were made to provide education to all in the country. It is only through “The Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009” education was made compulsory in India.
