Abstract

In this paper an attempt is made to trace the history of the formation and development of the global linguistic and philosophical thought for understanding the phenomenon of stereotype for a long time, namely the inference of ancient philosophers to the present day. The fundamental transformation taking place in the modern world, caused the review and re-reading of many of the fundamental concepts that still perceived a priori. One of these concepts is the phenomenon of stereotype ? a comprehensive integrative phenomenon, to study which is only possible at the intersection of different sciences, including linguistics and philosophy. The evolution of linguistic and philosophical thoughts introduced the concept stereotype; it is defined as a social phenomenon that has certain properties: schematic, acquired character, sufficient stability; performs positive functions: cognitive function, the function of saving effort, generalization function, the function of orientation in the world of information, the ability to categorize linguistic experience and negative: means disorient people and a way to manipulate them. Linguistic-philosophical understanding of stereotypes and stereotyping led to a change in the scientific paradigm: from naive consciousness as a means of identifying the world to scientific consciousness as a means of manipulating by public opinion.
