Abstract

Analysis of reports of adverse reactions to drugs that affect the nervous system, received by employees of the Department of State after registration and State Expert Centre of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine (SEC) and its regional office in Ivano-Frankivsk (RO) during 2007-2012 was carried out by a number of indicators. A causal link between the adverse reactions (AR) and the use of medications (M) according to qualitative methods recommended by WHO was established. All registered undesirable pharmacotherapy manifestations were predictable, the majority (64%) of them were not serious and 36% were severe, that is, causing a threat to the patient’s life and health or prolonging hospitalization. Over 60% of the AR developed on the first day of drugs use, AR of long-term drugs use in the Ivano-Frankivsk region was observed in 2% of reports, and in Ukraine in general, their percentage was 1.68%. Notifications of adverse reactions were obtained from medical institutions in various fields. Systemic response from the central nervous system, cardiovascular system and gastrointestinal tract was noticed when medications affecting the nervous system were used. It was primarily associated with the mechanism of drug action and their toxicity. It should also be noted that the risk groups by frequency of AR were women from 46 to 60 years old. Undesirable effects developed in this group more often (16.3%) than among other age groups.?
