Abstract

Lectures occupy one of the dominant places in occupational education. They are the principal source of new information; therefore a small number of lectures at the stage of post-graduate education for pediatric physicians create certain difficulties during their presentation. The objective of this work was to improve the quality of occupational training of pediatric physicians by enhancing the lecture material presentation. Results and discussion. Increase in volume of presented lecture material may be achieved by holding cycles of thematic improvement on the most pressing issues of pediatrics before pre-accreditation preparation. Other means include taking into account the cohort of listeners, presence of new medical information and its availability while planning lectures. Topical lectures should be given with the presentation of material which is sufficiently outlined in medical literature. When information material is not sufficient, it is better to deliver lecture-consultations, after preliminary determination of the initial level of listeners’ proficiency. The contents of lecture should have “compensating” character. A small number of slides (screens) and short but informative phrases should be used in multimedia presentation of lectures. Conclusions. Careful preliminary preparation to the lecture, the use of different types of lectures including elements of ‘improvisation” can substantially improve the presentation of lecture material, and, consequently, the quality of post-graduate education of pediatric physicians, with the imbalance of number of lectures and the scope of new medical information.
