Abstract

The objective of this study was to investigate lipid peroxidation (LP) and antioxidant defense (AOD) state in 130 patients with chronic heart failure (CHF). Metabolic syndrome (MS) was verified in 100 patients of the main group. The control group consisted of patients with hypertension. Complex research of LP markers indicated intense accumulation of primary and secondary lipid peroxidation products in the blood of patients with CHF related to MS. We have found that the content of LP products increased with CHF in FC II-III and slightly reduced in FC IV in both groups. The same tendency was observed in the study of ceruloplasmin activity. Analysis of LP and AOD indices depending on the type of heart remodeling showed the highest degree of changes in these values in patients with severe left ventricular hypertrophy. We may assume that the LP intensification is a factor that increases myocardial damage with subsequent abnormality of its geometry and functional condition and intensifies vascular remodeling. ?
