Synthesis and preliminary evaluation of some 2-amino-n’-[substituted]-4,5,6,7- tetrahydro-1-benzothiophene-3-carbohydrazide as antimicrobial agents

A new series of 2-amino-N’-[substituted]-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-1-benzothiophene-3-carbohydrazide 2(a-i) were synthesized using appropriate synthetic route. The entire test compounds were assayed in vitro for antibacterial activity against two different strains of Gram-positive (S. aureus, B. subtilis and S. faecalis), Gram-negative (E. coli, P. aeruginosa and S. typhi) bacteria and the antifungal activity against (C. albicans, A. flavus and A. niger) fungi. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was determined for test compounds and for reference standards. The test compounds showed significant antibacterial and antifungal activity against the microbial strains used, when tested in vitro.
