LECTURERS’ OPINIONS REGARDING TEXTBOOKS USED IN TURKISH EDUCATION FOR FOREIGNERS

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to get the lecturer’s views on foreign textbooks used in Turkish teaching. In the study case study design, which is one of the qualitative research designs, was used. 20 voluntary lecturers who work in Turkish Education Center in four different universities in Turkey have established the study group of the research. As a data collection tool in the study, semi-structured questionnaire consisting of five questions and designed by researchers has been used in order to get lecturers’ views on visual and stylistic features, content, language and expression, measurement and the evaluation activities and requests and offers regarding the books. The data obtained form the research was analysed by NVİVO program. According to the results of the research teaching staff have stated about visual design and stylistic features that visuals are adequete and coherent with themes and reading texts, visual themes and stylistic features are proper to language teaching methods and techniques, some of the books have inadequate visuals and their visual content should be increased. The opinions concerning the contents of the books are about giving a balanced transfer of cultural elements, increasing reading texts and enjoyable learning activities for students. In addition, lecturers have suggested that cultural and daily life items, writing and listening skills and the visuals should be increased, preparation of books should be according to student level, content, language and expression should go from easy to difficult, there should be a joint program for all books, and they have also made offers about the lengthening and spreading the time of courses and strengthening the listening activities with interactive CDs and increasing the speaking activities.
