Abstract
Microorganisms are becoming resistant to ever more antimicrobial agents. Currently, microorganisms resistance is combated by the discovery of new drugs. However, microorganisms are becoming resistant more quickly than new drugs are being found, thus, future research in antimicrobial therapy may focus on finding ways to overcome resistance to antimicrobials, or methods to treat infections with alternative means. In this regards, oxadiazole bearing pyrimidone moiety 6a-j were synthesized and screened in vitro for their efficacy as antimicrobial agents against twelve bacterial and ten fungal strains by broth dilution method. Among the series 6a-j, compounds 6a, 6b, 6e, 6g and 6i showed potent antimicrobial activities against different screened strains.
