Introduction of OMP (One Minute Preceptor) As a Teaching Tool for Post Graduates in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology

Abstract

One Minute Preceptor model of teaching is not being implemented in the PG teaching in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Indira Gandhi Government Medical College, Nagpur so study was planned to find out the feasibility of introduction of OMP as post graduate teaching tool. The objectives of the study were ? 1. To sensitize the faculty of department of Obstetrics and Gynecology about OMP. 2. To assess the feasibility of introduction OMP as postgraduate teaching tool in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Validated Pretest and Post Test Questionnaire and role play were developed for demonstration of OMP module to suit the problem in department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The total number of participants in the study was 26 in number. There were 14 teachers and12 Post Graduate students included in the study. Bedside teaching, discussions and seminars in the class were considered to be common group teaching activities by the participants while teaching during operative procedures, case discussions and ward rounds were noted to be one to one teaching activities. In Pretest, it is seen that 9 teachers (64.3%) did not have any opinion about OMP on Likert’s scale. In Post Test, it is seen that 13 out of 14 teachers liked or strongly liked OMP while only one teacher does not have any opinion on Likert’s scale. The results of Post Test of the teachers and PGs shows that OMP can be implemented endorsing all the advantages of OMP for improving overall teaching effectiveness.
