Abstract
The present article is devoted to the infl uence of phonetic and derivational structure on the degree of activity of words in the English language. The activity is understood as the degree of occurrence of different peculiarities, which show the role of a word in lan- guage and speech. The number of meanings, more or less derivatives, valency and being com- ponents of more or less phraseological units are considered as the aspects of activity of words. The activity of borrowed and native verbs is compared in English and Uzbek. The degrees of infl uence of phonetic and derivational structures of words belonging to different origins have been revealed in non-related languages
