Abstract
In this paper, the vibration characteristic of a smart cantilevered beam with a piezoelectric patch is studied. Piezoelectric material is used as smart material and cantilever beam is considered as a smart structure. Different positions are considered for the model analysis. Modal analysis is done by using ANSYS and MATLAB. The effect of the piezoelectric actuator placement on controlling the structural vibrations Systems were used for this study, 3-D beam with PZT actuator and sensor. Beam was modeled in ANSYS. Actuator locations used for the study were acceptable since the feeding node had transverse displacement values that were not zero.
