Knowledge, Attitude and Behavior of Midwives and Nurses Working Primary Health Services on Family Planning

Abstract

Aim: We aimed to investigate knowledge, attitude and behavior of midwives and nurses working in primary health services on family planning. Methods: One hundred fifteen care nurses and midwives who are working in primary health services included in the study. The questionnaire of sociodemographic characteristics, properties of fertility, family planning methods, their knowledge, attitudes and behavior and on education in family planning was posed to participants. Results: All of the participants were female and the mean age was 36.4±6.2 years. Among the family planning methods, the most common condoms (30%) and IUD (28.9%) were used. There were no significant differences with use of family planning and age, educational level of their spouses and themselves, number of siblings, working time (p>0.05). There were no significant differences with use of family planning and abortion ratio (p=0.582) and unintended pregnancies (p=0.511).There was no significant difference between family planning and family planning education (p=0.126).It was observed that those who feel self-sufficient in family planning education were found to be more frequently used contraceptive methods (p=0.041). 80% of participants would receive periodic education in family planning. Conclusion: Primary health care workers have high rate of use of family planning, have a good level of education in family planning additionally it was observed that they want to be informed about innovations of family planning in-service training.
