Abstract
The study was undertaken to explore the perception and use of social networking sites by the students of Zakir Husain Delhi College (University of Delhi), New Delhi. Structured questionnaires were used for the purpose of data collection from a representative sample of 200 students. It was found that majority of the students were aware of social networking sites and they use these sites for friendly communication. Facebook was found to be the most popular and frequently used social networking site. A large number of students visit social networking sites 1-2 hours every day mainly for sending scraps and meeting/ making new friends. Though the students indicated that lack of security and privacy are the main concerns of social networking sites, a majority of them were found using their real names and photographs in their profiles
