TEK PARTİLİ DÖNEMDE TÜRKİYE’DE MODERN SPORUN TEŞEKKÜLÜ

It is a fact that there were rapid changes in social structure in the first years of the republic. Efforts were made for coming out of the chaos state and for becoming a nation-state and reaching the level of contemporary civilizations in Turkey after shrinking in the result of the World War I. The idea that sport has a vital role in raising better generations, making the communal living healthier and in instilment of national consciousness was dominant during single-party regime.Considering the conditions of the period, it is observed that the sports which we call ancestor sport had long lost its significance and foundations were laid for tendency towards the sports described as Western-style and modern. Consequently, we see that beyond modern sport is an individual phenomenon that is done professionally, it is a collective action performed in order to create a unity consciousness.
