SUITABLE WASTE DISPOSAL SITES SELECTION FOR TUMAKURU CITY, KARNATAKA, INDIA USING GEOMATICS APPLICATION

Waste management problems and issues result from in discriminate waste disposal which stems from improper planning and implementation. Th e present study aims to integrate RS and GIS applications to locate the suitable landfill sites in developing city Tumakuru of Karnataka state. Spatial data such as; lineaments, soil, drainage networks and tanks of the study area are extracted from a geo-rectified (25m resolution) satellite image (IRS-1D, PAN+LISS-III), Survey of India (SoI) toposheet (scale-1:50,000) and updated on Google Earth Image.
