Abstract

The mar ine mollusks are essential since most of them a re edible and used as food . It has received distinct attention and become a natural resource of economic importance. Perna species, like other bivalves are filter feeders are mostly cultured in coastal and estuarine areas. The coastal area is much polluted by the human impacts especially by industrial and sewage discharges. The organisms grow under such pollution prone zone are much affected and there is an variation in the metabolic, enzymatic and other biochemical components. The oxido reductases of the mitochondrial system such as lactic dehydrogenase ( L DH), Malate dehydrogenase (MDH) and Succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) plays a key role in most of the metabolic pathways.
