Abstract
In this paper , a compact dual band rectangular microstrip patch antenna is proposed with the defects integrated in metallic ground plane. Initially a regular rectangular shape patch antenna is designed which resonates at 5.2 GHz. With the introduction of DGS in the metallic ground plane, t he microstrip antenn a is found to be resonant at 3.5 GHz and 5.2 GHz simultaneously , suitable for WiMAX and WLAN application . Thus the proposed antenna behaves as a compact as well as dual frequency band operated antenna. The antenna was fabricated with the RT - Duriod substrate with dielectric constant of 2.2 and height of 0.762mm. This technique is validated experimentally and measured results were in good agreement with simulated results.
