Knowledge of farmers regarding tomato crop production in Karnal district of Haryana

Abstract
Tomato is one of the major vegetable crops. It plays a very important role in daily diet. Tomato in India has become almost an essential part of diet of both rich and poor people. In India, tomato is grown in almost all the states. Karnal is the largest growing district of tomato production in area, production and productivity in Haryana state. The systematic studies about tomato crop production in Karnal district are rare. This study will be helpful in increasing the knowledge of farmers for tomato crop production in this district. The results revealed that 66 percent respondents had medium level overall knowledge followed by 16 percent high level knowledge of tomato crop production. It was also noted that socio-economic status, occupation, caste, house type, material possession, education, farm power, risk orientation, extension contact and age were correlated with knowledge and found to be statistically significant
