How much University Libraries in Jordan Match the Set by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research from the Views of the Libraries Directors and Heads of Departments There

Abstract

The study aims to show the extent of compliance of standards set by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Jordanian university libraries according to points of view of libraries' directors and the heads of department as to, the number of students library staff, the number of seats allocated, books and titles, space of shelves and their number, information sources, computers available for research in the library catalogue, and the number of computers available to people with special needs. As well as the references, technical procedures and services, computer systems, furniture, alarms, and the electronic and traditional periodicals. The study community consists of the 180 directors and 30 heads of department of university libraries (Public and private), of which 132 (or 81.8%) responded The study revealed that university libraries applied most of the standards. It also revealed that there are significant differences at the level of semantics (a: ? 0.05) between respondents' points of view attributed to dependent variables due specialization, academic qualifications and experience. The study recommended the need for taking into account the libraries' furniture and equipment to the people with special needs, increasing the number of electronic sources, and the need for controlling and following-up university libraries regarding compliance with standards
