Abstract
The author studied the indicators of ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) and urinary 6-sulphatoxymelatonin (6-SMT) levels in patients with metabolic syndrome and assessed the relationship of these parameters with the status of smoking during the antihypertensive therapy. It was revealed that increase in the frequency of pathological ABPM chronotype in smoking patients with concomitant decrease in the nighttime excretion of 6-SMT. However, higher values of 6-SMT excretion in MS patients compared to healthy volunteers suggests the presence of compensatory mechanisms associated with increased secretion of melatonin in these patients.
