Abstract
According to data analysis of archaeological discoveries and historical sources, this article describes that the medicine of ancient Chersonese was represented by the temple, non-temple and folk medicine. It is shown that the basis of medical views on the genesis of the disease and methods of treatment in ancient times relied on pagan religious beliefs and superstitions, which subordinated the analysis of patient’s complaints, details of their anamnesis and objective methods of research. The lecture shows the wrong ideas about the genesis of diseases, such as quaternion of gods; the diagnostic methods based on studying of the stars and divination; therapies based on rituals, autosuggestion, patient’s sleep analysis, astrology and numerology; low level of hygienic conditions, resulted in a high level of mortality and short life expectancy. It debunks the myth about the high level of ancient medicine, it’s progressiveness and the need to implement these methods into modern healthcare.
