Verifying high dose rate brachytherapy plans’ dose calculations using an independent spread sheet based program

Abstract
The purpose of this paper is present a computer spreadsheet based program for the independent verification of absorbed dose point calculations in individual high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy treatment planningThe verification program is developed based on spreadsheets, the dose calculationformalism of AAPM TG-43 and the dosimetric data of the used radiation source Ir_192 v2r. The treatment planning system (Oncentra Master Plan Brachy) output text files are used to load the new program, allowing the use of the source coordinates, the desired calculation point coordinates, the dwell times of a patient plan and source strength. Then dose point's calculations are independently performed. A number of different types of clinical cases treated by Nucletron Ir_192 v2r source were evaluated. The program shows its results in a comparison of its calculated point dose data with the corresponding TPS outcome with less than 2% error percentage.
