Abstract
Abstract: Suicide or self destruction occurs through out the world. The rapid nature of death in hanging makes it one of the popular methods used in suicide. A total of 64 cases of hanging brought to the mortuary for postmortem examination were studied during the period of June 2004 to June 2006. Out of 64 hanging cases, there were 56 (87.50%) males and 08 (12.50%) females. The maximum number of cases were found in farmers 25 (39.06%) followed by servicemen and jobless people 10 (15.62%) each. Male dominance in society, stress, strain, alcohol addiction, break in love affairs, unemployment, failure in examination are the factors contributed to more number of cases of suicide in young adults particularly in male population. The most common place of hanging was home 46 (71.88%) followed by farm 17 (26.56%). Usually victim of suicide prefers any secluded place which will suit his purpose of committing suicide without any disturbance.
