Abstract
The article is dedicated to analysis of the dominant aspects of poetics of the novel written by the great Russian writer of the 20th century Ivan Shmelev: It studies a conceptual thematic plan, systems of images and motives, the chronotope in the short novel. Shmelev wrote this short novel in October and December of 1918, the period of his artistic quest and revaluation of his world outlook. In his writing Shmelev turns to Christian tradition by representing it as the belletristic hagiography of the main character. The theme of creativity in its Christian context becomes a category that allows the novel to be involved in the evangelical tradition of Russian literature.
