Abstract
Recently there is an increasing interest in integrating impulse radio-ultrawideband (IR-UWB) wireless services into implemented optical networks. This paper investigates the transmission performance of UWB over dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) network designed with 50GHz channel spacing. Simulation results are presented for the transmission of sixteen UWB signals, each carries 625Mb/s data.? Both Gaussian monocycle and 5th-order derivative Gaussian are used to generate the UWB signals under ON-OFF keying (OOK) and biphase modulation (BPM) formats. The investigation is then extended to address the performance of a dual-polarization UWB signal to increase the system capacity. The results reveal that the bit-error-rate (BER) performance of each transmitted UWB signal is degraded in the WDM system and this effect is more pronounced with middle channels due to fiber nonlinear optics.
