Social Support and Its Relation To Meaning In Life For Amputees In Gaza Governorates

Abstract
The study aimed at exploring the social support and its relation to meaning in life for amputees in Gaza governorates. The study also aims at identifying the levels of social support and meaning in life for amputees in Gaza governorates and the differences in each of them in regard to gender variable. Two self-developed scales: social support scale and meaning in life scale were administered to the study sample which consisted of (128) amputees. The study results showed that there were good levels of social support and meaning in life for amputees in Gaza governorates. The total score of social support scale was 71% whereas the total score of meaning in life scale was 72.2%. Moreover, the study came to the finding that there was a positive correlative relationship between the dimensions of social support scale and the total score on one hand, and the dimensions of meaning in life scale and the total score on the other hand. In addition, the results showed that there weren't statistically significant differences among amputees in the dimensions of social support scale and the total score due to gender variable whereas there were statistically significant differences among them in the dimensions of existence actualization and life quality and the total score of meaning in life scale in favor of male amputees.
