Abstract
In grid computing, a large set of distributed heterogeneous resources are utilized in order to solve complicated computing problems. Utilizing Grid resources effectively and efficiently needs a good load balancing algorithm to assign user? jobs to the available processing nodes for execution.Ant colony optimization is one of the most recent techniques for approximate optimization.? It simulates the behavior of real ants in finding the optimal path food resources. In this paper, we propose an Ant Colony Load Balancing Algorithm for the grid computing environment. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated using simulation. The results show that the proposed algorithm improves the mean job response time in all cases compared to the Random Distribution Load Balancing Algorithm.? The improvement ratio increases gradually as the grid workload? increases until the workload becomes moderate where the maximum improvement ratio is obtained and after that the improvement ratio decreases gradually as the grid workload increases approaching it's saturation point.?
