Abstract
Multithreaded microprocessor architecture is proposed that is optimized for common multimedia applications. The architecture is defined to support up to seven lightweight threads entirely in hardware, with instructions for managing, synchronizing, and communicating between these threads. Three different memory models are presented to simplify porting of applications: Shared Memory, Private Memory, and Multiprogram.
