EFFICACY OF GARLIC AND CINNAMON ON TYPE 2 DIABETES

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder that prevents the body from utilizing glucose completely or partially. The main objective of the investigation was to study the effect of spices like garlicandcinnamon supplementation on glucose levels of selected type-2 diabetes subjects. The study was conducted in Guntur and Tirupatitowns. Two diabetic clinics i. e one from Guntur (Ratna diabetic clinic) and another from Tirupati (Sri diabetic clinic) were selected purposively. From each clinic 25 people were selected. Thus total sample consists of 50 subjects. General information, anthropometric measurements and pre-blood profiles were collected. The sample was divided into three groups, one is control, other two groups were experimental-1 (garlic supplementation) and experimental -2 (cinnamon supplementation). The supplementation period was 45 days. After supplementation post estimation of blood was done. The present findings indicate that, there was a significant difference with respect to blood sugar levels after supplementation of garlic and cinnamon among supplemented groups. But in the control group there was no significant changes were observed in blood glucose levels. The results of the study demonstrate that intake of cinnamon (6g) and garlic (23g) per day reduces the serum glucose in people with type-2 diabetes.
