Abstract
The analysis of nominative features of names of the West European seas in different European languages is carried out in this article. The special attention is paid to the principles of the nomination of pelagonym in the initial linguoculture and to algorithms of deviation from the main tendency of transliteration of seas names by their translation to other l linguoculture. On the basis of the analysis some tendencies of formation of the European pelagonym repertoire, and also feature of its use in the modern European languages come to light
