Abstract

Aims: (1) To estimate coverage of routine immunization in the EZ (2) To find out the reasons for partial immunization or non-immunization. Settings and Design: Cluster sampling using 30 clusters technique Methods and Material: Cross sectional study using 30 cluster sampling technique in the EZ of AMC during April 2010. Statistical analysis: Data was analysed using the EPI info software. Results: Out of total 212 children, immunization card was available with 179(84.4%) and proper entry in 50.5% cards. Most common source of vaccination was government hospital (36.8%). BCG vaccine was given to 201(94.8%) & BCG scar was seen in 80.6% children who received BCG. Zero polio was received by 126(59.4%) children. Coverage of all three doses of OPV, DPT and HBV was more than 80%. Measles coverage was 79.7%. Total 158(74.5%) children were fully immunized, but the gender difference was not significant (P value >0.05). Most common reason for partial immunization or non-immunization was unawareness of the need for immunization (21, 38.9%). BCG-Measles and DPT1-Measles dropout rates were more than 10%. Conclusions: Accessibility of immunization services in EZ of AMC is good as the coverage of most vaccine (except Measles) is >80% but the utilization of the vaccination services needs to be improved as the dropout rates for measles are >10%.
