Abstract

The article presents analysis of foreign studies revealing the different patterns of parent-child relations in the historical and social aspects. The concept of childhood was formed on the background of many perceiva- ble and unperceived conflicts, particularly between the growing importance of the child's value in the wider so- ciety, implementation of the educational practices and the importance of self-realization for the parent. Social and economic processes, which took place in society in different historical periods, dramatically have changed the parent-child relations and have had a significant impact on the family and social institutions. The occurrence of various experts in the field of childhood has resulted to dual nature of the children's education. The child- parent relations have become not only the concern of parents and children, but also an educational institution since the content of the parenting skills has changed due to other social roles of parents and the whole social landscape of modern life. It has led to the modern understanding of childhood and has prompted a new look at the quality of the parent-child relations and parentality
