Abstract

The article deals with the history of creative interaction of theatre director and choreographer, its influence on the direction of ballet shows. I.A. Vsevolozhsky worked at the same period as M.I. Petipa. They were connected by the creative cooperation during a number of years; as a result, they directed performances, which became hallmarks of Russian ballet, especially performances for the music of P.I. Tchaikovsky and A.K. Glazunov. I.A. Vsevolozhsky played a big part in the development of Imperial Theaters, had a great influence on the process of development of Russian ballet. It was him who conducted the Theatre reform of 1882 in the framework of which regular composers lost their monopoly on writing music for ballet shows. Vsevolozhsky initiated performances, created scripts and sketches for costumes for ballet shows of Petipa as well as performances for P.I. Tchaikovsky music.
