Abstract

Investigations were carried out on the effect of helix angle on the liquid requirements for the transient chilldown of helically coiled liquid Nitrogen transfer lines. This work has taken the much needed first step in studying the effect of helix angles on their corresponding chilldown times and mass of fluid used for chilldown. Mass of fluid required and the time taken to completely chilldown 3 different helix angled helical transfer lines, at constant heat flux, were compared in this study. Important flow parameters for multiphase system such as volume fraction, liquid velocity, and temperature distribution were plotted and displayed.
