Abstract
Primitive neuroectodermal tumours are rare tumors representing about 1 percent of all sarcomas. PNETs have been reported in the chest wall (Askins tumor),genital tract, retroperitoneal cavity, and soft tissue of the head and neck. We describe a case of a 55 year old lady presenting with abdominal pain. Investigations revealed gross hydroureteronephrosis of right kidney with thinning of cortex. Ureteroscopy revealed pulled up ureter with external compression and multiple nodules surrounding the ureteric orifice. Laparotomy revealed the distal ureter engulfed by diffuse hard mass fixed to the retro-peritoneum, adherent to the caecal wall, mesocolon, mesentery, and distal ileum. Biopsy of the mass revealed small round cell tumour with possibility of primitive neuroectodermal tumour. Patient underwent nephroureterectomy for nonfunctioning right kidney and started on chemotherapy
