Abstract
On the basis of the analysis of written sources and literature of the subject, the main peculiarities of the complex heterogeneous structure of armed forces of Florence in XIII-XV centuries are revealed. The interrelationship of its different elements, reasons for dominance of certain armed forces components of the city on Arno in different periods are investigated. The investigation embraces such previously understudied by national historical science troops formations as berrovieri (it.: mace-bearers), scutiferi (it.: servants-at-arms) and zofones.
