Abstract
Scalability is one of the most important features of large cluster file systems. Based on service separation, a file system scalable model CFS3M is present in this paper to describe current storage architectures and give guidance to new architecture design. CFS3M horizontally separate whole file system service into different functional tier firstly, then vertically distributed the heavy load tier to many servers to avoid bottleneck. Case studies show that the CFS3M model can describe the typical SAN FS and OSD architectures well.
