Abstract
Tuberculosis is a major cause of disability and death worldwide, and one-third of the world's population is infected, with 95% of new cases occurring in developing countries. The evaluation was based on key informant interviews using the the “CDC Surveillance System Evaluation Template”, adapted to render its guidelines applicable to tuberculosis; review of available records and structured observation. The tuberculosis surveillance system is meeting most of its objectives, but there is the need to improve data management and Private Health Sector participation. Clinicians and community members should be sensitized regularly to ensure early reportage.
