Abstract
Medium strength aluminium alloy (Al-Mg-Si alloy) has gathered wide acceptance in the fabrication of light weight structures requiring a high strength-to-weight ratio, such as transportable bridge girders, military vehicles, road tankers and railway transport systems. In any structural application of this alloy, its weldability is of utmost importance as welding is mainly used for joining components. Hence, in this investigation a study has been made about preparation of a weld joint of an aluminium alloy with exceptional properties and evaluate the mechanical and microstructural properties by conducting tensile strength test, hardness test, toughness test, % elongation test, microstructure study & SEM imaging.
