GOBO: a Sub-Ontology API for Gene Ontology

Including large-scale ontologies like Gene Ontology (GO) in their complete form could imply unnecessary system cost. We propose to represent those context-specific portions of knowledge from the whole ontology as sub-ontologies. GOBO is an open source API for manipulating sub-ontologies from GO. The aim of GOBO is to improve GO-based bioinformatics applications by ontology reuse.
