Abstract
The paper aims at sensitizing with critical understanding of trajectory of government initiatives for amelioration and empowerment of women and girl child in various spheres. Speaking about the freedom for women, the inherent paradox in women’s politics of belonging is often somewhat different, and relates to the different relationships that women usually occupy in ethnic and national collectivises. Evidence suggests that domestic violence disproportionately affects women as victims. Though, the empowerment process is difficult to measure quantitatively, however, various scholars have used education, work participation, and exposure to mass media, the means or sources by which women are expected to develop decision-making authority, greater freedom of movement, autonomy, and attitudinal changes in favour of gender equality, as indicators to measure empowerment.
