Abstract
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a major public health problem globally. Current estimates suggest a significant increase in the global burden of DM in the years to come. Sleep disordered breathing (SDB) is an emerging health concern world over. Evidence is available suggesting that obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is considered to be both the cause and consequence of DM. Due to lack of awareness regarding the condition and non-availability of diagnostic facilities, OSA remains an underdiagnosed problem in patients with DM, in developing countries like India. Early detection of
OSA in patients with DM and assessment for DM in those with OSA can potentially reduce cardiovascular disease risk and improve the quality of life in these patients.
