Abstract
Green building involves constructing a structure and using processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building's life-cycle. Despite the benefits of green building, their adaption rate in Kenya remains low. The purpose of the study therefore was to assess the adoption of green building technology in Kenya. The study utilized descriptive research design where a sample size of 105 construction experts was engaged. A simple random sampling technique was used to select the sample. The study used a structured questionnaire to obtain the data from the selected study subjects. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used as a tool for data analysis. The study established that there was a weak positive correlation between expert knowledge and adoption of green building technology, which was statistically significant r = 0.274. It also established that legislative framework had a positive influence on adoption of green building technologies with a correlation coefficient of r = 0. 304. The study also established a positive correlation between level awareness and adoption of green building technology with a coefficient of r = 0.504. The study concluded that the level of green building technology adoption has been low due to inadequate expert knowledge about the technology, lack of an appropriate legislative framework and awareness about it. Hence, to effectively deliver the kinds of green building that can become a force for positive change, new skills that are both technical and interpersonal in nature are needed to develop and implement appropriate legislative framework and create awareness about the technologies. It was recommended that the level of awareness of green building be enhanced through various strategies in order to make end-users to enjoy the benefits of the technology.
