ENVIROMENTAL AND GENETIC ASPECTS OF WEANING WEIGHT IN NATIVE CATTLE OF COLOMBIA

Abstract
Data of 1877 native cattle (Romosinuano) weaning weight born between 1980 to 2001, were analyzed. The weaning weight average was 182,88 ± 0,67 kg, the standard desviation was of 29.35 kg and variation of coeficient was of 16.02. The effects of years, month of birth, number of births and sex of calf, were determinant in the weaning weight. The estimate heritability of weaning weight of direct effect was 0,14 ± 0,05 and for the maternal effect was 0,12 ± 0,03.
